operculum problem

Postby evan on Mon May 25, 2009 9:46 pm

two of my snails got their operculum like this, very small and heavy, is there anyting wrong with my tank or the food?
my tank is 20 gallons, I use API test kit to test, Ammonia is 0-.25, PH is equal to or higer than 7.6. I feed them most cucumbers, then algae discs, then caltrate with vitamin D, and this week I put a fish feeder block in it. the temperature is 69 yeasterday, so I start to use a heater, now it's 71-72.
I have kept the black one for more than a month, and the blue one for more than a week. they are all from petsmart. my other sanils' operculums looks ok, but I haven't check them carefully.

Donya correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking it could be that the snail has been growing so quickly it's operculum isn't keeping pace with it's shell. Make sure the snail has access to calcium and keep the temps in the low 70's and see if the snail can get caught up.
