Spotting Apple Snails in the wild

I may have the opportunity to visit the southern US, including Florida, and would be most interested in doing some "snail watching / photography". Does anyone have any experience or advice? Is it possible to find them, or is the population being controlled to where it is more difficult? Are there any places where one might be guaranteed to find them?

Send a message to an old member here, rpilla001. He lives down there AND does photography so he may be able to hook you up with some spots. Otherwise, do a search for apple snails in Florida and you should find a "pest" map, probably from the DNR, on where they are the biggest problem.
